Simple, evenly set teeth are an indication of an attractive smile. This in turn is an important factor in both professional and private relations. If you do not have to feel embarrassed by the state of your teeth, you gain great comfort and confidence.

Malocclusion is not only an aesthetic problem, but in many cases it leads to caries and periodontal disease. Due to an incorrect distribution of teeth,  excessive abrasion and problems with chewing may appear.

What is an orthodontic treatment?

During an orthodontic treatment, different kinds of braces are used – removable appliances for example. Invisalign, clear aligner or fixed appliances.
Orthodontic treatment is often necessary before starting with implantology and prosthetic. Through a comprehensive approach to the dental treatment, it is possible to provide a satisfactory and lasting effects.

How is the first visit to the orthodontist?

During the first visit, a consultation with polish doctor -specialist takes place, who first carefully examines the patient’s teeth and then informs about an orthodontic problem. Accurate diagnosis is associated with digital and X-ray images, and taking dental impressions to perform diagnostic models.

Consultation allows you to get valuable information about dental treatment in Poland, the knowledge if you have a malocclusion, and if so, what kind. The specialist will tell you how it can be corrected and whether it will be necessary to start the treatment without any delay or it is worthwhile to wait until the permanent teeth appear, or for other favourable conditions. In addition, the doctor will plan the treatment, and tell you whether any extraction will be required, and – how long the treatment may last.

When you already have one

It is worth to remember about the good oral hygiene. Therefore, during orthodontic treatment one should multiply efforts to maintain proper dental hygiene. Anyone, who fails to follow the daily routine of cleaning the oral cavity, is exposed to the rapid development of caries and periodontal disease, and thus will require frequent visits to the office to perform professional cleaning.

The basis of daily oral hygiene of people wearing braces is an accurate brushing of teeth and braces after every meal and systematic flossing at least once a day. After this procedure, we advise to rinse your mouth with an appropriate liquid.

What can you eat and what you should forgot when carrying braces?

Fixed appliances do not mean big sacrifices when it comes to a diet

The following food should be avoided:

  • gels, chewing gums, hard or soft candies, for example toffi
  • hard buns, for example, baguettes
  • hard, raw fruit and vegetables
  • sweet soda drinks
  • nuts, chips, popcorn

You can eat without problems:

  • soft cheese and yoghourts
  • sweet bread, cakes
  • rice and pastas
  • fish
  • cooked, soft vegetables, also soft fruits

A good way is to cut food into smaller pieces, easier to chew. You should be extremely careful when you have new locks or replaced bows. Replace then the hard bread and raw vegetables for soft dairy products, eggs and minced meat.
